For elective amputations, pre-surgical planning is important. This prosthesis requires the entire tibia/fibula, including the malleoli, for it to be a viable option. This option is also common for elective amputations of the paw, congenital deformities, and other conditions. An adequate soft-tissue flap over the bottom surface of the bone is also important. If a congenital deformity exists some surgical revision may be required. The condition of the skin (post-surgical) should be considered before making the transition to the prosthesis.
